Beach on the Cake & Cake on the Beach

July 25th, 2011

So it’s July and we’ve been trying to spend as much time as possible on the beach.  However, sometimes orders stack up and we gotta find a way to bring the beach to us.  And the only way we know how is cake!

First off is a 5 year old riding a wave which is actually more like a tsunami in comparison to the beach below.  But this is cake, not real life. The world of cake is always idealistic.

Who doesn’t love dancing crabs and clams who know how to party?

Even though there is molten hot danger lurking above this is still a tropical paradise of a cake.

Whales can be sweet and innocent.

And who doesn’t love a piece of cake at the beach?  This is our mascot Dr. Fresh (aka Brian, our cleaning guy) at Beach Day in Winthrop last Saturday where we actually got to go to the beach!

Movie Inspired Cakes

July 6th, 2011

This past week we’ve had an unusually large amount of movie themed cakes with figurines.

Here’s the Hulk bursting through the cake and smashing the number 40.

The Terminator

And finally, Starwars with the birthday girl dueling with Yoda.

Sweet Sweet Rivalry

June 5th, 2011

Since baseball season is in full swing we felt we needed to post about the cakes we’ve done about the two most rivaled teams of the game.  The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees.

First off, for our home team, the Red Sox.  Yes, this cake is bigger than the next because we’re slightly partial : )

Next is a Yankees dedication cake, pinstripes and all.

And lastly, if you must compromise, here is a wedding cake where the bride and groom (and even their families) were hard-core fans of each team.  You’ll notice that each team, after careful planning, received no more decorations than the other team.  Just to be fair of course.

GO SOX!

Howcast videos!

March 8th, 2011

Last month we got a call from Howcast.com asking us if we’d do a set of cake decorating videos for their “Expert” series.  The video producer they sent out (Keith McKellar) did an amazing job, and the tutorials look incredible.  So now, in addition to simply seeing the finished products, you can also see the work that goes into each step of creating a cake -which is very, very cool in our opinion.  Enjoy and happy baking!

Long Distance Valentine

February 17th, 2011

This Valentine’s Day we got a unique cake request from an Army soldier who is currently overseas.  He is currently deployed in Afghanistan and wanted to send his wife a cake with a figurine of himself holding a bouquet of roses delivered to her on Valentine’s Day.

We delivered to cake to the unsuspecting wife who, we later found out, loved her over-seas Valentine.

We were honored to make and deliver this special cake.
